GreenGene started this duckweed project with a clear mission: to transform duckweed into a sustainable, high-value plant-based protein source while addressing global challenges in nutrition and environmental sustainability.

GREENedit™ GENETIC TRANSFORMATION SYSTEM


CO-CULTURE

Lemna minor tissues are incubated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens to allow transfer of the target gene into plant cells. This step facilitates T-DNA delivery through close contact between bacteria and plant tissue.

SHOOTING

Regenerated tissues develop shoots, indicating successful plantlet formation. These shoots can be further grown into stable transgenic Lemna plants.

SELECTION

Transformed cells are selected on medium containing a selective agent. Only cells that have successfully integrated the transgene survive and continue to grow.

REGENERATION

Selected transformants are cultured under conditions that promote recovery and differentiation. During this stage, transformed cells regenerate into organized plant tissues.
